Impromptu update on what I'm up to..

So I'm taking a visual development class. This is my second time doing it, and I'm kind of excited for it, because the art style we'll probably be going with is more challenging for me. Anyways, the first assignment is doing grayscale value studies of film noir-era works. I looked through Citizen Kane, Psycho, Laura, Twilight Zone, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I'm gonna look through some more after this.
Also, I'm taking environment sketching. I'm supposed to draw up a medieval town. I'm kind of on the fence about this class, because I feel very incompetent and I sort of want to take figure drawing classes with this other instructor, but it's at the same time (and different schools), so I have to decide whether I want to do this class, or focus on drawing the figure better. I'll probably just stick to this one, because I tricked my professor into thinking my work is good, ha ha! And because at least I'll have a better experience with drawing up environments? I don't know.. We'll see next week.

Hah, what a difference between this cleaner one and the rough.

Also taking storyboarding and landscape painting, on top of working at my odd job and helping my dad with his furniture store, so I'm pretty busy (or at least I should be if I'm doing things right), yeeesh.

Hello World

Drawing has been on my mind for a while, since I've tried to focus on making that my career, so this blog is just a sort of diary and to push myself to be more committed. I'm gonna mainly focus on posting my scribbles on this platform, because dA and tumblr are overwhelming for me, and I'd rather be able to post up what I've been up to art-wise here than only doing fanart or whatever. No art this time, but I'll get something up soon.

Just for the record about who I am.
I'm Joseph Truong. I graduated from UCLA in 2013 with a cognitive science degree and a specialization in computing, but for silly reasons, I wanted to do art all of a sudden, so I enrolled in Mt. SAC (Walnut, CA) to take some foundation courses and expand my knowledge. Currently, I'm living with my folks in Ontario, CA, but that's probably going to change in the summer, and I'm taking classes at Fullerton College. I work as a behavior therapist, curbing bad habits for autistic kids. I like showtunes, radio talk shows, puzzles, sunny afternoons, hearing puns (but you will probably never hear me admit it irl), and reading about history, and I guess other stuff I forgot about.
